| Though educated to understand the human body and its energy fields in certain ways, clients still know the ebb and flow of their own bodies better than anyone else. Maintenance of these connections depends on trust, so open lines of communication from all concerned parties are very essential. With that said, there are some important issues that need to be discussed, which will aid in making the partnership more beneficial: Massage therapists do not diagnose illness or disease or perform any spinal manipulations, nor do they prescribe any medical treatments. If there are any specific medical and/or psychological needs, they can refer their clients to appropriate health-care professionals. As a result, massage therapists can refuse sessions until they have permission from said professionals to continue with those sessions. Clients are responsible for their health, so getting scheduled check-ups are very important, as well as maintaining healthy diets and exercise programs. Because sessions should not be performed under certain circumstances, clients should keep massage therapists updated on their health histories. So it is time to embark on a healing journey - one that can encompass a lifetime. During this time, looking within is important; hence, the old adage: Know thyself. Massage Massage is a holistic application of physical touch to affect the systems of the body, such as the muscular, skeletal, digestive, elimination, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, endocrine, and nervous; a manipulation of the body’s soft tissues with the hands for therapeutic, healing, and relaxing effects; and a loving touch of the heart and soul expressed through the hands. There are many variations; however, I work with client needs and pressure preferences, with an open mind regarding medical histories. I call this blend "personalized massage." For reference, here are definitions of what I offer: Swedish - system of long strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints; and Pregnancy - done during the second and/or third trimesters, in side-lying position with pillows for comfort and support, gentle pressure is used to promote better function of the muscles and joints, improve circulation and overall body tone, connect with the new life inside, and enhance relaxation. General benefits include: Emotional - increases connection of body-mind-spirit, creates a general feeling of well-being, enhances emotional expression, improves self-image, reduces anxiety; Mental - enhances calm thinking and creativity, improves ability to notice stress signals, induces relaxed state of alertness, reduces mental stress; and Physical - promotes deeper breathing, encourages relaxation and stress reduction, relieves muscle tension and stiffness and spasm, increases ease of movement by aiding in greater joint flexibility and range of motion, improves circulation of blood and lymph, decreases blood pressure, improves skin nourishment, strengthens immune system by increasing circulation and disposal of wastes. Reiki A gentle form of "laying-on-of-hands" healing that uses channeled energy, Reiki means "universal/spiritually-guided life-force energy." Though similar to a massage session in a visual sense, there are distinct differences: clients are fully and comfortably clothed when on the massage table and the practitioner’s hands are still, moving only with the shifts in the flow of channeled energy. Sessions increase relaxation - in other words, a significant reduction of physical and emotional stress, enabling people to be in states conducive to their own natural healing processes. Healing Stone Massage Healing Stone Massage is a calming bodywork modality originated by Carollanne Crichton, director of Solavedi Ayurveda and Formulary, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, that uses skillful application of varying temperature stones in conjunction with massage, aiding people in their awareness of the here-now and bridging the sacred connection of body-mind-spirit. People try it if they are tensed, stressed, fatigued, congested - in particular, the sinus area - having insomnia, dealing with digestive issues, experiencing chronic pain, recovering from illness, and more. Fees 30-Minute Sessions: $30 60-Minute Sessions: $60 90-Minute Sessions: $90 Please Note: I understand the phrase, "Life happens," so if you want a bodywork session and have concerns regarding what you can pay, please contact me.
